Paula Parker, Paul Ruben, Becky McKean and I got together about a week ago to talk about a very disturbing film by director László Nemes and starring the poet Géza Röhrig .
Our conversation took many interesting turns but for me the most interesting idea was our discussion on the conventional aspects of the film as a “concentration camp” or “Holocaust” genre film. We tended to all disagree with A. O. Scott’s New York Times review.
